Twiggy's Hydrogen Highway

  Carnot Minister for Railways

Could this kill off rail freight for good along Australia's East Coast?  I honestly hope not.

"The strategy provides up to $3 billion in incentives for green hydrogen production, including tax exemptions, and incudes plans for a "hydrogen refueling highway" between Melbourne and Brisbane."

Well, Hydrogen would have to get cheaper and just as common as fuel, the technology needs to be more widespread than 3 Auto makers....

Plus in the future, Hydrogen fueled locos could easily be a thing here now.

True.  I'm watching with keen interest to see how the rail industry adapts to Hydrogen.  They need to get cracking IMO.

An interesting graphic here on the viability of Hydrogen in future.

ABC repeated Twiggy's National Press Club speech about the Hydrogen economy today. This was originally broadcast some months ago.

Since Twiggy's Fortesque mine and railway makes huge profits, he can afford to experiment with H2.

It'll be fascinating to see if Twiggy modifies any of his locos.  Ballard currently make 200 kW Fuel cell modules, so a typical Dash 9-44W would need to utilize at least 15-16 fuel cell modules per loco.

And probably a few H2 tank-wagons as well per consist...

Could be an interesting test in 50 degC Pilbara heat.
