I was at Rose Hill Saturday, and did not see the Phoenix S and E wagons. Were they actually there? I note that at Melbourne's Waverley Exhibition, they were on sale. Ah well, might have to wait till CaulfieldRod. The S trucks were there on the SDS stand but the E wagons were on the Casula stand.

The S flatcar version could also be used as a SAR wagon as when the Webb steam loco's were transferred from the ship to Islington some O wagons had the sides and ends left of of them to transport the bits for assembly and later in life some o wagons did get cut down to just the same thing almost. Here is the SAR plan for the FO flat car.SAR O wagon?

Well if you want to cut down a SAR O wagon to get per the original way you can but a simple repaint of the VR S class flatcar version would get you the same result almost and a bit cheaper as well. The S flatcar version could also be used as a SAR wagon as when the Webb steam loco's were transferred from the ship to Islington some O wagons had the sides and ends left of of them to transport the bits for assembly and later in life some o wagons did get cut down to just the same thing almost. The drawings of the D3 class by Phoenix are correct as far as wheel flanges go for every member of the class after 1954. Work to remove the flanges on the centre wheels started in the 1940's. The eureka mech is correct for the 53 as it was designed for use for all standard goods classes. Yes the Eureka D50 class centre driving wheels are a scale 3 inches to far apart, but it a minor compromise of no consequence.Another update on the Phoenix Models website...Thanks Ardglen.
So it now appears that Phoenix Reproductions are to do the D53 with Wampu and Commonwealth tenders. Is Eureka still in the picture for these models? It appears that the Eureka D50 mechanism will be used. The drawings show the centre pair of drivers as flangeless. This is incorrect for most D53 engines as far as I am aware. The term 'TF' stood for 'T Flanged' as I understood it. Or is this merely a suburban myth?
Happy standard goodsing,
John
SDS 800 dieselsInteresting - but perhaps better posted in the SDS thread rather than this Phoenix thread.
The SDS 800 class diesels, DC only versions have arrived and are being posted out.
Have seen a photo of the AN green version and my SAR traffic yellow version arrived toady.
Looks very nice. Well packed and presented.
DCC sound versions are about 8 weeks away according to a note on my order form. Waiting on DCC chip supplier.
Les.
Interesting update. I hadn’t considered decoders would be affected by the semiconductor shortage but makes sense, they do use a form of arm based processor.Exactly! However Rapido might have taken on extra work? (edited out. as I might have got that wrong)
Interesting follow up comment about how Rapido held everything up with their runs of the SW1200, considering Rapido always talk about using their own factories.

I hadn’t considered decoders would be affected by the semiconductor shortage but makes sense, they do use a form of arm based processor. After all the problems of ~2008 created by Sanda Kan (then amplified further by the full integration into Kader), Rapido created its own manufacturing facility Maytex-Rapido for its own manufacturing needs. In 2010 Maytex-Rapido started taking on extra work from SDS and similar 'small run' OEM clients.
