A couple of weeks ago I got a photograph of a brand new five pack on MB9.
I didn't get its code but it was numbered 50039. The code is painted on the centre sill but the number appears under the central container locks. There are number of older wagons of the same type numbered in the 500xx .
50039 had new bogies as well as new paint so was not a repaint.

The wagon under the new container in the first illustration is 50035, also new.

Well whatever their motives, Rio Tinto announced today they are seeking a Western Australian supplier to provide 100 iron ore wagons...

Rio Tinto has called for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from Western Australian manufacturers to build 100 rail cars for its Pilbara iron ore mining operations.

The EOI callout follows Rio Tinto’s announcement in September it would look for opportunities for Western Australian suppliers to help grow the local rail car manufacturing industry and support local jobs.

Rio Tinto will initially purchase 50 rail cars from the successful supplier, followed by an ongoing commitment of 10 rail cars a year for the next five years.

100 isn't all that much in the grand scheme of things. Each train consists of 230-ish wagons, multiplied by 50-60 trains

An initial 50 wagons MIGHT attract someone but an ongoing 10 wagons year is not much of an incentive.
It's a wonder that the WA Iron Curtain doesn't include imported rolling stock components that might have been touched by someone whose aunty once sat next to somebody that had had Covid.

Aee there any wagons manufactured in Australia any more?

Also if there are built here, are they simply assembled or actually manufactured?

As I posted a few months ago in another thread, Rail First at Islington Works has been manufacturing CQPY 40-footers for most of the year. Initial order of 50 completed and another 35 being built now with an additional 50 a possibility. Whyalla steel for the frames, wheels from Newcastle, re-purposed bogies. I think the brake gear my come from the US. Photographed CQPY 1805 there last week with 'Australian Made' sticker on the frame.

UGL in Newcastle are churning out locos for ORA and QUBE at the moment which also carry 'Australian Made' stickers.

PQQY is the code you're looking for, they first appeared back in 2015 or so with the PQKY's (which also have the centre-sill codeboards that I hate)
