Keep hearing of train burglaries in LA on the scanner so went to #LincolnHeights to see it all. And… there’s looted packages as far as the eye can see. Amazon packages, @UPS
boxes, unused Covid tests, fishing lures, epi pens. Cargo containers left busted open on trains. @CBSLA

As you can see, trains frequently slow or stop in this area as they get worked into the @UnionPacific
Intermodal facility near Downtown LA. The thieves use this opportunity to break open containers and take what’s inside. I’d say every 4th or 5th rail car had opened containers.

Responsibility for policing the railroad right of way falls on Union Pacific Police... not local agencies like LAPD. We did see Union Pacific police chasing two people today off the tracks and keeping an eye on things.

How does this happen that not even containers in trains are safe UP need. Ore police around the area to control the theft and goods damages.

Why would the trains be waiting so long for access to the intermodal yards in Los Angeles are the intermodal terminals congested ?

Surprising. I went and looked at this area on Google Maps and it's quite a mess. Street side tents, tagged motorhomes, burnt out cars, there's even a needle exchange program there. Wherever the rails to, trouble follows it seems. Even if the trains slow down and stop, I'm surprised the containers seem to be so easy to break in to. Even a thief going 'equipped' would take a while, or should take a while to get in. I imagine the railway police are not permitted a 'shoot-to-kill' policy in liberal California with its Hollywood stars.

Seems UP's security efforts are seemingly not up to par.

Management will get interested once it impact's their bottom line, that being the only language they understand.

Y... yes? It's been a running theme that Port of LA is the only place you can really unload the biggest container ships that dock, and everything is backed up.

This is happening in Chicago too.
