The Australian Open 2022

  justapassenger Minister for Railways

A diplomatic passport means nothing if the receiving country refuses to accept that the holder is a member of the foreign country’s diplomatic mission.

This being the realm of Law, there of course is a Latin term for the action of refusing/expelling a diplomat: persona non grata.

A diplomat declared PNG may legally be confined to their embassy/consulate until they leave the country at the earliest opportunity, and both of the directly involved countries have the option to speed up that process by chartering a flight to a neutral third country.

Serbia being involved, Australian authorities could take the opportunity to deal with a related matter at the same time and make the third country the Netherlands, specifically Rotterdam-Den Haag airport so a few other Serbs could be put on the flight and dropped off at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.

I've got $10 that says he will chuck a tanty and demand an appeal through the courts. An out-of-touch magistrate will order his release from immigration detention while the case winds its' way through the legal system and he will get to play anyway, all the while thumbing his nose at both his opponents and Australia.

Should've had one of Ronny's KC330's sitting at Tullamarine ready and waiting for him...It would've been worth the cost.

Agree.
Pretty much what I have said all along although I would be looking for El Zorro Air or the Dodgy Brothers to get him outside (just) Territorial Waters.
He hasn't gone yet and there is still money to be made by the lawyers.
If he does play next week it should be good for a stir ................... Twisted Evil
If nothing else his credibility and/or integrity are gone for good.

His lawyers are about to file an injunction....

I get the feeling that Alex Hawke cancelled his visa based on public polling.

You know every time you thing a politician or the government should do something because you want them to? Guess what, the Minister has something because most of the nation both wanted it done, and deserved to have it done.

People who who complain that politicians do what is popular fail to understand what being a politician is.

So he said his agent filled out the form??
Isn’t the traveller supposed to do that??
Yep, so gone for that count too.

Visa applications can be filled out on behalf of the applicant by another party, but that party needs to be trusted by the applicant and still not provide false or misleading statements.

I filled in my wife’s visa application(s), my wife filled out the visa application for her father and his partner. I and her took great care getting them right and we didn’t have millions of dollars potentially riding on it either.

If Novax’s staff screwed up, Mr Djokovic better review their terms of employment, and this in no way makes for a problem for the Australian government.

I can answer that, I have disinterested friends and family in the US, and Europe. My friends in the US said ‘Djokovic is a liar and Australia should deport him’, they’re strong democrat voters from California.

Everyone I have spoken to across Europe, the UK, France, Germany, Poland, Latvia and Estonia have all said much the same thing ‘it’s good to see that Australia stands up to its laws’ - even the Polish relatives in the UK say that, all whilst hoping the UK doesn’t get too tough on them during Brexit.

Diplomats also need to arrive on their diplomatic passport, his visa application has to match the passport he used, having a diplomatic passport issued after arrival isn’t going to buy him anything.

He doesn’t really have a recourse through the courts, pretty much the only appeal is that the minister made an error in law, but considering legislation allows it to be totally at the minister’s discretion with no explanation required it’s hard to see an error in law argument being successful.

The Novax saga to go before the Federal Court tomorrow at 9:30am, we should get an answer as to whether he gets deported sometime in the afternoon hopefully.

They had to wait until the results of the focus groups told them what to do - that's why they took all week.

Some Politicians have failed to understand what being a politician is.
One only needs to observe those, motivated by self interest.

Who cares what the world thinks? And which countries, other than Serbia, would let the way a tennis fair is held, influence their international relations? Are you worried that Australia is being badmouthed on the streets of Togo, Turkmenistan and Paraguay?

Hopefully tomorrow afternoon we will see the deportation of the biggest waste of space we have seen for some time!!

It would still be nice to see him play. But the way things are, I can't see how. Maybe convert a lab where ebola is kept into an indoor tennis court and have him play against a tennis-robot?

If he plays it will be far worse publicity for Oz than if we ship him off.
Like them or not we need a government who will decide who comes here and has the guts to ENFORCE that decision.
Who cares what Serbian politicians think?
