T6 Carlingford Line closure for Parramatta Light Rail

Am I missing something? Will they take 3 years to convert to light rail? If so, why?

T6 line is a short part of the project ... major earth works and a few bridges just for the T6 section ..
viaprojects
The Carlingford line is mostly single line. Will it be duplicated and will such duplication require a lot of earthworks and bridge works?

It has been duplicated except for one bit under the bridge at carlingford. A new bridge over kissing point road but utilising the existing alignment and no significant earthworks.

Never was fortunate enough to catch the T6, but the ROW always looked like it was intended to be dual track, or at least easily converted to be dual track, with the cumberland hwy bridge being the exception and this was done probably 50 years back when they didn't care.

The NSW govt is giving this guy a great oppurtunity and he seems to be doing it well.

M2 would probably be less visual being mostly UG.

WSA Metro  (do we call this M3?) will see him with a fair bit of driving.

Since tracks were taken up in 2020, what will happen to the land of the alignment between Parramatta rd crossing and Camellia?

camellia is a light rail stop with the race course section would be the dive tunnel for the metro and the rest has been marked as a service road to parramatta rd ..

a few maps on the sydney metro site ..

As expected, Stage 2 is recommended to be postponed due to budget issues and increased costs....ABC SMH

just a change in fed government has changed budget planning .. as some works have started on stage 2 ..

hint - when they put raising Warragamba Dam wall as a urgent project you know there is bs in the air .. just need to wait for the budget ..

they currently have a plan of 6 months to install a single light rail station on stage 1 ..

As will a number of infrastructure projects. I would dare say unless its under construction now the chances of it starting are slim.

Or perhaps not! If a week is a long time in politics, 24 hrs provides plenty of time for a clear decision....SMH

Fair decision, probably something that will be of value compared to other projects and not a long lead time.

Glad to see this project get budget approval finally. A lot of people in Wentworth Point are really happy about this. (I’m hoping it will take some pressure off T9 as well.)

I’m assuming it will cost at least a few billion, maybe $3-4B? So $600M is a good start, but it will need similar/higher levels of funding over several years to see it through.

Would be good to get more bipartisan support/less bickering on these kinds of projects. There’s every likelihood that we will see two more elections before LR2 is operational.

should be only one if unlucky .. only core issue is the bridge across parramatta river but have been planning for awhile .. really they don't want a long delay after opening stage 1  ..

Don'tt hink it will cost that much.

LR is normally ~$100m/km when built in road. Whats the length around 12km?

Updated map with new stop names. However, most other maps on the website still have the previous names

Stage 1 already $475m over budget
Nine months out from the next state election, it has also emerged that the first stage of the Parramatta light rail line has blown out by $475 million to $2.875 billion, largely due to the cost of remediating highly contaminated land for a tram depot and recent flooding.
