It looks as if the careers of the DH's are all but over now

Very sad to see for sure.....

How many are preserved with heritage groups/orgs at the moment? Still, another part of history comes to an end..

If it is sad to see them go you might want to buy one at the auction and have it transported to your back yard. Would look good with a steel brake van as a display.

02 is at Ipswich Workshops and was in the steam shed under restoration last time I was there
38 is at Rosewood Railway Museum and gets used regularly
There are three at Puffing Billy Railway (Victoria). Original number escape me. Two of these are in service (in VR blue and gold), having been regauged to 2' 6".

Of course many have been converted for use as cane locomotives.

Don't QR use a DH for MTCE on the Forysth line as its the only loco with suitable axle loading? So what now?

My guess is you will need $50k a piece.

Well they did use MMY37 & MMY45 a few years ago, but these two along with DH71 & DH72 are now for sale. There has been quite a bit of track work done out there since the two MMYs were out there, so they must be using other track machines.

thought 71 & 72 belonged to heritage???

Whats happening to 73? Is it still in Mackay somewhere?

DH73 is at Yukan and is part of the sale. Not too sure on DH71 though.

Only 4 for sale so if 73 is not either of the very rusty pair of MMY37 & MMY45, then it must not  be for sale.

Hi Graham,

"Guide to Australian Locomotion" states DH71 is stored at Rockhampton.

Can't vouch for the currency of the info though.

regards.

last time i saw 71 he was at the back of the rocky yard with some TGV's. I believe 71 doesnt have a engine though and that it was used for spare parts for 72&73

To clarify the ones pictured on the website are: MMY37, MMY45, DH72 & DH73. Not sure why I said DH71 earlier, but I wonder why it isn't included in the sale?

I believe the 1170 there is the class leader which is owned by QR Heritage which I presume now comes under Queensland Rail (rather than QR National).

The DHs haven't been out on the Forsayth line since 2007 when they went to Mount Surprise to collect some wagons that were sitting in the cattle yard siding there. All the recent track upgrades have been done with track machines with sleepers being dropped by a shuttle vehicle.

When  I was in Townsville as the General Manager's Clerk, we did a trip back in 1977 to Forsayth with the Transport Minister and his committee with multi DH's and the Minister's coaches and General Manager's Coach #577 from Cairns.

Had to have special buffer plates made up in Ipswich Workshops to fit over the coach buffers to save getting buffer locked around the sharp curves.

Slow trip, but a good trip.

One of my most enjoyable jobs in QR but played havoc on a young bloke just married with a young baby.

3 of the 4 locos have been sold. DH37 to the Walhalla Goldfields Railway in Victoria, DH45 to Mary Valley HR [I believe] and DH72 to EDI. All are being towed to Mackay on 13 or 14 November and will be lifted off on Monday 15 November...time and place unknown...but a siding without o/h wires. Is there anyone around with a camera on Monday in Mackay? Would love some photos of the lift off.

There is no overhead wires in Mackay.

Thanks Raymond. Being from Victoria I would have no idea LOL. Where they are currently stored at Yukna and Jilalan they are under wires [I'm told]. Hence the move to Mackay for removal.

You have to feel sorry for DH 37. It's spent it's whole working life basking in the warm sub-tropics and now, in it's semi-retirement, it ends up in a cold, sunless mountain valley with frosts in winter and occasional snowfalls just to make things interesting.

The poor thing won't know what has hit it!
