It has been reported in one of the railway magazines that a P class member it to head to one of the heritage groups can anyone shed any light on this?

would you convert it back to a T? or leave it as P? I guess the HEP could be useful for the steamrail and seymor as they run regular passenger trains

and what colours would you paint it in? P's went into vline orange and grey off the bat dident they? you couldn't really have it as VR unless you converted it back to T.

with all the Vlocities coming online its only a matter of time before the A's and P's are retired from vline. 1 A has been put into dry storage hasn't it?

I say it's about time someone preserved a loco in tangerine, but I can't see it happening too soon. If it's headed to SRV, it'd probably get the same livery as T395 I think.

I second that. Would be good to see a clean new v/line paint scheme on a preserved loco.

Agreed. Lets hope groups will snap them up in due course and not ignore them simply because they were not VR liveried loco's!  Laughing

Let's see if it is in fact true first.

Well no P Classes are headed to Steamrail!

There is an issue with Tangerine livery as the name V/Line is still in use and I believe its a copyright issue.

T378, L1162 and DRC43 have all run in V/Line Tangerine in preservation (albeit all were wearing the livery on withdrawal from revenue service, and the former 2 have since been painted VR Blue & Gold).

If the locomotive was still owned by the DoT and allocated to a preservation group, as owners of V/Line would this allow for avoiding copyright infringement (in that V/Line would still technically own the loco)?

Thats right, those locomotives were wearing the livery on withdrawal from service. Im just telling you how it is.

I wonder if 'touching-up' the paintwork on these withdrawn loco's would be a breach of copyright?

There is no copyright on the livery only the name V/LINE.

So let's say the rumors are true and a group, for example SRHC gets it, they could easily paint it in tangerine and replace V/line with SRHC with no issues Question

The copyright issue is on the name V/Line as it's a registered name of an organisation. You could replace the V/Line with SRHC, though it has no historical significance. A case in point would be El Zorro and their T386. The loco is painted in V/Line tangerine livery, though the V/Line on the side has been removed and the V/ on the front has been replaced by a big red Z.

You all sure its copyright? I'd say V/Line don't want any old heritage unit with their name on it. Plain as that. I see it as more of a public image type thing imo. Who'd wont some old junker trodding around and getting in everyones way that has NOTHING to do with you, yet its got your name all over it.

Joe Public - "Hey I remember them trains in the 80's, V/Line must be desperate/Wheres our taxpayer money going/No wonder the trains are late etc"

I hope you all can see where i'm coming from though, sort of.

Replacing V/line with SRV or SRHC makes the livery irrelevant for heritage purposes. I much prefer the idea of a corporate livery (similar to SRV's Santa Fe methods) for P classes until the day comes the v/line logo can be used.

This is all just "what if".

Till it actually happens, dial down the foam a couple of notches and wait and see IF it happens.

The question of livery and if SRV are/are not getting the P have already been answered.

Ahem, yes, well, clearly I shouldn't post at 0300hrs...  Embarassed

There was a bit too much bite in that post, clearly.

In summary, there's not a lot to to the story just yet, all in good time and hopefully all good things to those who wait. Wink

(I'd love to see a P back in Tangerine and Grey with the huge old school logo on the side running around in front of a wooden carriage consist, but unfortunately, 50 years is a long time starting from the 1980's)

/Tones down the tired nastiness a couple of levels...

No point converting a P class back to a T, we already have a stack of flat tops preserved: T320, T333, T341, T342 and T413.

Converting a P Class back to a Flat Top T Class would be a very major undertaking, that would be considered as a downgrade of the loco.

Cover over the V/Line signage (sicker) and hire the loco's out to who wants them !

I would hate to see a P class converted back to a flat top T, as we already have a number of flat top T class in preservation, and there is a need for us to have a P class as an example of the past.

I would love to see either the Orange and Grey, OR, we could have the Orange and Silver ''Tea Cup Livery'' of VicRail.

I trust the name VicRail would not be bound by whatever trademarking of which V/Line would be.

Perhaps replace V/Line with VicRail.

Great to have one P with SRHC and another P with Steamrail. Painted in VR Blue and gold  AND  VicRail Tea cup livery respectively.

While we have never had a P class in Blue and gold, it would be nice to see what one would look like in those colors. Looking at a Low Nose T is not good enough dispite looking exactly the same.

Would we ever see an N class in Blue and Gold any time soon?
