Another fantastic unknowledgable and uninformed post !!! From what i've seen, been told and experienced, the Evo's are plenty good enough product the issue is the "junk" that the end user, Rio is loading onto them that is the source for around 99% of the day to day trouble. It would be niave of anyone with the faintest idea to think in their work environment, any machine will perform faultlessly mechanically right from new and indefinetely.

I'd like to know the source and reasons for returning to the "shops for repairs". Those that have been put out into service are still running in the same consists as they were put into almost a fornight ago up until yesterday, with by my observations 8183 the only one to have not left yet.

Care to elaborate on that?

I'll look into it and try to find out more, I know they had 2 with turbo issues though.
As for "same consists" I assume you're talking about loco's only, not wagons..?

If you were anywhere on, in and around these loco's or rail ops in general, you'd know that i'm talking about the abundance of components and software for ATP, ICSS, DLC etc etc as being the "junk" that causes the most problems with day to day problems.

Similarly, it would be obvious that in regard to the use of the term "consist" to someone somewhere within the operation i was talking loco's only, as  a set of loco's usually only stay with a "tag" for a single round trip from port to mine return.

Interesting you should say about the turbo's as the trouble you were refering to as i was on a triple that had a new unit in the middle that had been bleeding fairly heavily via the exhaust, but was still out and about in service and no entries made in either book. Naturally one doesn't see everything that goes on, there could have been some short lived releases of new units before i took up last swing, and was naturally curious on your post as it was with odds at what i saw from on the ground. Cheers.

Wow, seems a bit over the top...

I only asked the second question to clarify that we were on the same page, clearly that p!ssed you off... For some reason.

I also stated that "2" had turbo issues, not all 12.
Not really sure why you're so agitated about the information that I've heard from 2 of the loco's supervisors.

So because I received the info from loco's supervisors it's fiction?
Also unsure as to what it is that I "only wish" for...

Going back to the original post,

" Now that Toad has returned home to the home of the cane toads, is there anyone still in the Pilbara? Or are there no FIFO Railpage Australia™ guys?
Would really enjoy reading, and hopefully seeing some pictures, of activities up in the North West.

I agree. I was taken aback Shocked to see a Moderator send such an immoderate post.

I think KRviator should report himself to himself.

Can't see what's in the link but if it's Dash 8s then they're off to scrapping.

What a shame. I suppose they'd be too big to operate anywhere else in Australia?

The -8's have been purchased by CFCLA for rebuilding and hire to the various Pilbara rail groups.

With major construction works on the big 3 lines (Rio,BHP and FMG) as well as possible lines for Atlas, Roy Hill and / or QRN there will be a demand for construction locos.

Of the loco's sold by Rio, i'm led to believe 8 x -8's were purchased, but the two -7s will be scrapped onsite.

That's my bad, I completely forgot about the units CFCLA purchased, sorry about that. I must have got my wires crossed slightly as I knew some were being scrapped, it's just not all of them.

Commonsense will say that you scrap expired units on-site, at least into manageable chunks, not waste thousands of dollars in moving them South. As Crisfitz noted CFLCA is buying some of these loco's and a closer look at the Nearmap image will show they appear, by the colour, to be ex-Robe units.

Guys take a look at the date on the map November 7th 2011 its over 6 months out of date
The two C36-7s are at 7 Mile for scrap, four CM40-8Ms are in the LIA Karatha being held, the other four are at UGR Bassendean under overhaul. All eight CM40-8Ms are owned by CFCLA

There are photos taken in the Pilbara being put on facebook on a irregular basis by FI/FO drivers of BHPBIO or Rio trains.
I have never seen any on FMG on facebook except the ones Altoona Works got that came to them by pm1225.

Thanks Boss,

I reckon there is a reasonable chance the CFCLA loco's could do spend some of the time over here on the East Coast in Qld on the construction of Gina Rienhart's coal line.

jmt posted these images from Overland Models Facebook page of one the new FMG SD70ACe's at Progress Rail in Munice, Illinois over in the Loco Pages:

Someone mentioned that quite a few of the FIFO workers post pictures from the Pilbara to their Facebook pages. Anyone wants to post links? Those of us without Facebook accounts would be very happy Very Happy
