3016 to Hawkesbury River & Gosford via Hornsby and Lavender Bay

Hi all

Rang up yesterday to book a spot to unfortunately find out that it has been sold out, with a waiting list of around 10-15 people.

If this trip is using the same consist as the run to Richmond this past Sunday, surely they could be able to add another carriage, but then again I could be wrong.

Cameron.

I think you'd find that the consist is limited by that which the two locomotives can reasonably haul up the ruling grades in the required section times by RailCorp. No point having a slow heritage train delaying "revenue" services.

Another consideration is the train length that can fit into Waverton shunting neck.

Indeed. RTM trip for the harbour bridge 75th in 2007 used 3016, 6 cars and 4916 on that section and was told by person on the trip that this only just fitted into the shunting neck and Waverton

Without further information and smeg-uming that this tour will be a distributed power conig with a D/E, which loco might be up front for the charge back up the hill away from Looney Park? Could be the difference between making an appearance with camera (or not)...

I didn't type smeg btw - clever case of censorship it would appear

Some great video there.  Was that wheel slip coming up from Lavender Bay?

There is a signal in this area allowing entry into Waverton Neck, it may have still been at stop.

Just uploaded some video of today's trip, and, by was of comparison, I've also uploaded some video of 3016 and 4916 hauling RTM shuttles to Lavender Bay nearly six years ago. Back then the view down on to the line at Lavender Bay from the top park was just about to be blocked by trees. I hadn't been back there since then but I was still surprised at how relatively hard it was to find an unobstructed view from the sunny side down at track level, especially for video.

Great work BW - especially with capturing train and bridge in what are at best tight conditions. Recognised myself in your footage from '07 - jogged my memory of when I was there last, so much water under that bridge since!

I have no idea why the page is showing "April" in the title for the video. The title is correct, ie, "March", on the YouTube page.

The data base is showing this loco is broad gauge. I think this might be the incorrect loco tag for 3016.  What class is the steam loco on the tour?

I believe it was, and I believe it the wheel slip was near the old Milson's Point station, unlike last time, when the wheel slip was nearer the middle-ish of the gradient.

Watched Bevans video, seams the 49 class was doing all the work as it is up hill from Hawkesbury. Hope it was not the case for the rest of the day! I would not want to dish out $$ to go on a steam tour only to have it pushed all day!

5810 I beg to differ if you know the route to Gosford from Sydney it has numerous grades and is mostly uphill we are talking about a converted suburban tank engine! Of course it was assisted! People like you seem to forget these facts and yes it was working - Hard! Also the tour ran over a major arterial out of Sydney with no inconvenience Passenger or Freight traffic!     8)
