Your guesses that allowances are gone is far from what has been proposed. What has been proposed is that allowances are rolled into the salary package to overcome numerous errors when compiling train crew wages. As for VRs, no such proposal is on the table for station staff. Get your facts right before spreading idle gossip. There is a long way to go before any of what has been proposed by Sydney Trains is actually implemented.
I worked for a company that went from wages to salary package in the mid 90's, seriously the best thing that ever happened for both company and worker. We had over 450 shift workers and used 0.5 people per month to do the monthly payrole. Across the road, another large heavy industry (BHP owned) had half that, they had 7 people to do the fortnightly payrole.
For the guys, less mistakes, less errors, they know exactly what they will get each month for next year unless their shift pattern was changed.
For the company, lower payrole costs, less mistakes, less complaints, they know their salary bill to the nearest dollar for the next 12mths. Supervisors are not spending wasted hours a month approving and checking time sheets.
The old time sheet clock card is a hang up from the 19th century. Unfortunately I have to deal with this again at my current employer.
