VR for Station Staff, No more Allowances for Train Crew

  sydneytwains Station Master

Starting this Friday. All station staff can register for VR. More staff reviews before Xmas.

No Vege patch.
No Forced redundancy.

As for twain crew? Howie is coming for you in his latest email. I'm guessing all allowances are gone. Rumors of penalty rates will be chopped and replaced with a cash bonus P.A. Furthermore crew will be operating on just one line and a few depots are to close.

Your guesses that allowances are gone is far from what has been proposed. What has been proposed is that allowances are rolled into the salary package to overcome numerous errors when compiling train crew wages. As for VRs, no such proposal is on the table for station staff. Get your facts right before spreading idle gossip. There is a long way to go before any of what has been proposed by Sydney Trains is actually implemented.

I worked for a company that went from wages to salary package in the mid 90's, seriously the best thing that ever happened for both company and worker. We had over 450 shift workers and used 0.5 people per month to do the monthly payrole. Across the road, another large heavy industry (BHP owned) had half that, they had 7 people to do the fortnightly payrole.

For the guys, less mistakes, less errors, they know exactly what they will get each month for next year unless their shift pattern was changed.

For the company, lower payrole costs, less mistakes, less complaints, they know their salary bill to the nearest dollar for the next 12mths. Supervisors are not spending wasted hours a month approving and checking time sheets.

The old time sheet clock card is a hang up from the 19th century. Unfortunately I have to deal with this again at my current employer.

@nswtrains
You seemed to be ill-informed. A email came out at midday today in regards VR for Sydney Trains Station Staff. This includes CSA and DMs.
Many staff reviews commence early next month.

As for train crew and your ill-informed statement? Once again you are incorrect or twisted my words. Allowances will be remove or absorbed into a carrot dangling exercise.

"Sydney Trains Management have stated that although there will be some Voluntary Redundancies available and some employees will be displaced from their positions, they intend to ensure that those employees who wish to remain with Sydney Trains will be found positions or alternative work until they find a permanent position.
Members are advised that they should attend their station review and participate in the development of their stations responses to the SydneyTrains proposal."
Above is an extract from the RBTU Bulletin on the position regarding VRs. Probably targeting CSAs who sell paper tickets. I understand that BOMs, ATOMs and the AIMNET system is for the chop.

Looks OK on paper doesn't it? Here are some facts. I'm a part time CSA. I'm losing 8 hours per week. I'm losing my weekend shift. As a part timer that means my income is slashed by over 1/3. And there are people much worse off than me - staff who have been "displaced", of which there are many.  "Displaced" as just as good as sacked. Displaced to woop woop at half the pay.

If your employer wants to change your employment contract, be sure it is because they think THEY will be better off. If it does actually turn out to be mutually beneficial, be thankful.
