Looks like a ripper. I am trying to work out how to fit it into an Easter Holiday. The early start at Seymour is the sticking point at the moment. Her indoors thinks that I am barking for suggesting we spend the previous night in a Seymour hotel / motel!

Absolutely hopeless and very poor timetabling.

The flyer says to be in Seymour 30 mins before departure...yet the first two trains from Melbourne on the SG and BG are scheduled to arrive within 5 minutes of the special trains scheduled departure.

Not everyone wants to drive to Seymour to pick up the special.

Surely some clowns at Seymour know about V/Line and the first arrival times on V/Line trains on a Saturday.

This raises a good point @StephenBaker was the timetable created to ensure the train could get paths for the journey to Bendigo.

What about the return to Melbourne from Seymour, is this still possible?

If the "clowns" had any sense they would cut a deal with a local hostelry, possibly for two nights because of the late night arrival back into Seymour.

I was going to use Memsahib as favoured by a mate of mine but I thought that might be a bit of a bridge too far! Oh and if 'er indoors knew that I was calling her 'er indoors I would probably be a single man rather quickly, she earns more than I do!

She's not too fond of The Minister of War either.......

A friend used to use the term "Leader of the Opposition", opposition referring to the combined front of kids and wife. Fortunately it was a good natured opposition.

Isn't it awful how threads wander Smile

Well that was mainly my doing, again, but I couldn't miss a shot at quoting some good old, lines, from " Minder " a favorite in our household, early 80's, while I was intermittently supposed to be attending Hamilton Tech School. Laughing

I guess for those willing to take the chance on the 5 minute connection on the down, the 20 minute connection with the up 23:00 bus from Seymour may also have hearts racing on the return journey about the connection time.

Apparently someone else at Seymour is a Railpager...new amended times allow for V/Line connections to/from the City. Should be a good day out with minimal stress inducing late running to be concerned about.

However the flyer needs to be adjusted to read 8:45 ex Seymour and shorter stay at Echuca.

Thanks Mike, I thought it looked different when I looked at it yesterday.

Are you going? I booked yesterday, can't wait. Staying in a motel Fri and Sat nights to avoid the stress of having to drive there from The Maine, can't wait, as a self employed person Easter is one of only 2 real holidays I get each year and this one is going to be a cracker!

No...I have no reason to go.

I'd have to drive from Ballan to somewhere where that late UP bus ex Seymour stops.

Travelling in none of those cars is that exciting when I've travelled in them or similar in revenue service over decades.

I think the last time I recall going to the Easter fair was around 1965. Shocked

Old SoP cars on the Toolamba goods line, with a turn back at Echuca?  Just a tiny bit different ...?

Well it seems that we were both wrong about the popularity of this trip - I have just received an email to say that it has been cancelled due to poor response and V/line changes to the pathing.

Bugger, I was really looking forward to it, now off to see if I can cancel my motel booking.......

I just had at look at the SRHC website and everything looks as though the train is running - the brochure, the booking form, all looking very "business as usual".

They must have amended it overnight.

http://www.srhc.org.au/Charts has it cancelled, but an Echuca Steam Rally trip is coming soon.

I would hazard a guess that the trip was just too long for some people. I know that it would have been an early start and pretty late finish for me, and that's what put me off it.
I was contemplating going Seymour to Bendigo, and home on V Line from there, but now that's just academic anyway.

their facebook post about the cancellation cited lack of numbers and pathing changes forced on them that meant the return trip didn't arrive back until well after 11pm making it unviable

Note also that no V/Line trains will be running between SCS and Gisborne from Good Friday evening to Easter Sunday.  Easter Fair organisers in Bendigo won't be impressed...
