Why did this train go via Newcastle?  Could it not travel Parkes-Werris Creek-Moree?

The second big train arrived in SA today - 100 wagons to be loaded at Crystal Brook with C509/C504/SSR102/SSR101.

Interesting that theyre using the SSRs,  should improve their margin somewhat.

SSR grain train presently loading at Crystal Brook SA [nearly finished]. C506 leading C509,4,10 and C507 and the Brown and Silver rakes?. I guestimate about 40 plus hoppers.

Back to NSW?

All I know is what I posted. Was lucky enough to see it from the road at the AWB/Grainflow facility. Not easy to access without trespassing which is why the guestimate.

For 15000hp (5x C Cl) id expect more than 40 wagons (which could be around 2400t).  Previous trains were up near 6000 tonnes.

As I said a guestimate. There are 20 plus brown hoppers but I cant get a real good idea of the number of silver hoppers. I thought about the same number but its difficult to judge in the balloon loop from afar. Certainly 5 Cs is a lot of HP for about 40 hoppers,

101 wagons again, with 29 dropped off at Peterbrough this morning. So 72 loading at CB at the moment.

Shuttle will take 30 to P'boro overnight and return with the 29 for loading tomorrow.

5 locos on the train does not necessarily mean they are all powered up.

Thanks - knew you'd know more Wink

But, i would expect that if 5 locos go over to SA, that power of 5 is needed....  They don't need to go on vacations to see the SA sights these things!

In theory all 5 are never powering at the same time, although on the day circumstances may occasionally see a requirement for all 5 powered up at once

5 allows the fuel load to be shared around, thereby avoiding one or two time consuming re-fuelling stops (at 'country' prices), and means you always have one unit available in case of failures when travelling so far from home.

The Peterborough shuttle will only have two units on it.

Why the Peterborough shuttle? Grades, or Loop length at CB?

Is there any security on the wagons when they sit at PB overnight? Or do you trust the locals/local kids?

We spoke and communicated in English when I went to school particularly when we wished to inform those less fortunate who only spoke gibberish.

Just take the acronym STD and compare its two main meanings. Which would you rather have?
