And if they didn't do this you'd probably have a moan about the government not taking the health of aboriginal communities seriously, or how this will be smallpox all over again and so on. Go and live in another country if you're so ashamed.
I was going to comment similar - which country do you want to move to Carnot? I’ll stump up 25% of the airfare for you, I am sure others here will do likewise.
I have a friend that works in aboriginal health in a community just out of Katherine.
She just happened to be in Adelaide a week or so ago and I took her out to dinner where we caught up on many topics, but the most interesting was asking her about the Covid situation in remote Aboriginal communities.
I had heard it said that the Aboriginal communities regard Covid as ‘a white man illness’ that won’t kill them, which disturbs me for a different reason to the obvious, that which billybaxer alludes to - how can aboriginal people with all their ties to land, ancestors and community not know what happened to their ancestors when ‘white man illness’ arrived on the shores? How can these communities today not know what smallpox and to lesser extent, but more disturbingly, chlamydia and syphilis did to their people? It just does my head in to realise that they either don’t know or (worse) don’t care they stand a high chance of being quite literally decimated again.
Sadly, my friend confirmed that what I heard was absolutely true.
It however gets WORSE!
She told me, and I actually dropped my fork when she told me, they have more body bags in stock than vaccine doses, and how horrific it was having to receive them and store them. It’s not that they have low stock of vaccine doses because they cannot get supply, it’s that their demand is effectively zero for the low number of doses they have, the adults won’t take it and they cannot give it to the kids without adult consent, and why would the adults give consent to the kids having it if they don’t believe it’s necessary at all?
So you can get all SJW about it if you wish Carnot, but smeg is about to get real out there, real quick, and unless you’ve got a better plan, the people out there on the front line are going to go with the contingencies they have because they cannot ‘just let it run’.
I heard the fear in her voice, saw it in her eyes and on her face - so you have three choices:
- Accept that isolating even children away from infected family is the best option.
- Tell us your better option, and ‘get them vaccinated’ isn’t it.
- Tell us which country you want to live in and let us start making arrangements to get you there.
