I can hardly believe my eyes we have co-operation across the sector?  Good news story I guess but let's see what comes of it.

I think your scepticism is well founded - this sounds like a great initiative but with the ongoing balls up that is the MBS project and the government not prepared to commit the $$$ to fix it without running to the Feds for help you have to wonder if it is just window dressing.

Surely the first thing that the VFF and the operators will suggest is 'here's an idea for you, fix the mess you have made already and save us having to run via Ararat thus saving us a heap of time and $$$'.

Is a working group like a committee?  I wonder what a government would do if they wanted to create the illusion that they actually wanted to fix something.

Didn’t the government have one of these committees to come up with the idea of having a port shuttle service ten years ago with intermodal terminals set up and running by 2018? Why don’t they just look at their file notes from the last committee meeting?

So who is on this committee??

And how does it gather evidence for suggesting improvements?

Don't they have to set a date for another attempt at organising a pissup in a brewery before getting let loose on other stuff like that?
  potatoinmymouth Chief Commissioner

Presumably all dead-end committees will be rebranded as working groups in the not too distant future to remind us everything the government is doing for us.

Yep - only because Task Force is a bit old hat these days.

The Port Shuttle whatever it is going to be called has been on the cards for 4-5 years and all we have really seen is another announcement. I remain hopeful this will happen and if it does not i think the Port of Melbourne will struggle with containers and delays in the coming years.

talk years ago on inland ports and making block trains of containers a reality making this onto the agenda is a really important initiative making port side access even better.

Co-ordination from councils and reduction in trucks on the highways must be the priority.

Intermodal terminals have been raised in discussions at Ararat and Swan Hill which has produce export.  All along the riverina is potential freight which could go on rail.

SCT could have a role to play on the traffic for LCL.

They could ... or they could not.

Important to remember that SCT is a logistics company, not a train company. They use whatever mode is the most advantageous for them.
