The future of rail and the future of existing Australian open access models pretty much summed up there...

We are so near, yet so far, in so many ways with rail freight here in Australia but SCT remains one of our few 'hopes for the future'.

SCT really know how to toot their own horn. Unfortunately, they aren't living up to their own spin, with constant delays due to poor operating practices. I think that they may not see the opening of Inland Rail as a Rail Operator. They have been offered help, but have declined it numerous times.

Edit: '... They have been offered help, but have declined it numerous times. ....'
An intriguing comment but obviously not one to pursue here on RP.
