In the early days of National Rail, C510 and 705 are captured descending Islington Bank with a Melbourne-bound "Jet" freight. At the time the Melbourne-Adelaide line was in the process of being converted from broad to standard gauge, with the new standard gauge line bypassing Ballarat and the notorious Islington Bank. With the NR Class locomotives and a raft of new container wagons under construction, photographers didn't have much time left to capture scenes like this.
