C501 "George Brown" stabled at Glenorchy, Victoria.
At the time this was taken, C501 was being used by El Zorro on the Hopetoun to Hamilton mineral sands train. As the C Class is too heavy for the branch line, it is stabled in Glenorchy (or Maroona) while the train loads, and is added again on the return. The reason the C is required is to tackle the steep grade up to Stawell. When a lighter "third loco" is on the train, all three locos go out on the branch.
C501 has been preserved operationally by the SRHC, and is available for hire as a freight locomotive.
