This shot really didn't work out the way it was planned, sadly! The Steamrail special had been put away one loop earlier than we expected to cross and be run through by V/Line services, so by the time the steam train got to Taradale, the planned silhouette shot was almost not possible. With the lack of sunlight becoming more telling by the second, I gave up trying to push my camera past the point of sanity, and instead opted to pan the train across the bridge. Regrettably, the train was going a little slower than expected, so instead of a great pan/silhouette of the locos, it just looks a bit messy. I still like it, but it's not what I'd hoped for upon our arrival.
On Saturday the 7th of September 2013, Steamrail Victoria operated a special train from Melbourne to Bendigo and return, hauled by R761 and R707. At Castlemaine, passengers had the option to transfer to the Victorian Goldfields Railway, and travel on a doubleheader behind D3 639 and J515 to Maldon and back, or they could continue behind the double R Class to Bendigo for lunch.
