Brooklyn Junction is a major destination on the Newport Brooklyn Freight Line. The junction manages a number of sidings and also the triangle between the Newport line and Tottenhan Yard and Melbourne to the East or the SG only flyover to the west and Sunshine. The SG flyover is used by trains transiting from the North East to the South West and vice versa. The junction has dual track (on Dual Gauge) between Brooklyn Junction and Newport. The area is controlled by ARTC and Victorian Centrol.
Through interstate freight trains (e.g. BA/AB services), trains between Melbourne Yards and the Port and Western Victoria on BG and SG. There also also local goods services and transfers on both gauges. The Overland also uses this junction as does the Indian Pacific if it is required to use Melbourne to bypass issues on the SA/NSW line.
Completely open. No cover. Old signal box still exists.
Take Somerville Road and the Princes Highway.
street based. There are verious places to park off road but keep clear of the running lines.
Not advisable. Perhaps a bus on Somerville Road.
