V/LINE says its heat restrictions have prevented derailments on the state’s freight rail network.
For the first time since 2009, there were no derailments in the state last year.
However, freight rail groups and the grain industry have been critical of tightened operating restrictions, which prevent freight trains running on several lines when the temperature reaches 33C.
The Mildura line is one of those affected and V/Line management met the Rail Freight Alliance and industry stakeholders last week to discuss issues caused by the restrictions.
