VicTrack today announced planned environmental assessment works at Horsham, with BlueSphere Environmental to deliver groundwater and soil tests and sampling across the Horsham rail yard.
Manager, Environment and Sustainability, VicTrack, Dr Lyndal Gibbs said BlueSphere Environmental staff will drill and install bores and collect soil and groundwater samples, in response to an EPA Notice that requires investigation into potential clean of the Horsham rail yard.
Tests and sampling works will be carried out by experienced environment staff working under EPA standards.
The Horsham rail yard, located 500 metres north of the centre of Horsham, is currently leased and operated by Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) to support interstate rail freight operations.
Works will be carried out in late April and in May 2017, between 7am and 6pm on weekdays.
VicTrack is briefing the ARTC, site tenants, Horsham Rural City Council and the EPA on the planned site tests.
During the period of works the local roads will remain open. Traffic Management Plans and work zones identified by safety signage may be put in place on Mill Street. VicTrack apologises for any inconvenience caused by the works and asks people to observe safety instructions
VicTrack, on behalf of the Victorian Government, invest in land management and heritage programs to preserve significant buildings, structures and areas of environmental value. As a government agency, everything we do works to serve community outcomes.
