An elderly man has died after apparently being hit by a train in Melbourne's east.
Investigators believe the man was struck by the city-bound train about 6.20pm (AEST) while he was walking towards Tecoma from Belgrave.
"It appears the man attempted to cross over the tracks when the Belgrave train struck the man," Senior Constable Kendra Jackson said.
The man, whose identity has not yet been established, suffered head injuries and died at the scene.
Victoria Police will prepare a report for the state's Coroner.
