Inland rail a trifecta for Toowoomba region: mayor
Australian construction company John Holland says yesterday's $560 million deal to upgrade rail freight lines between Sydney and Melbourne will create jobs and boost the economy in regional areas.
John Holland is part of the Australian Rail Consortium, which has now signed a three-year deal with the Australian Rail Track Corporation.
Janet Holmes a Court, from John Holland Rail, says the rail network between Sydney and Melbourne covers about 1,000 kilometres.
Mrs Holmes a Court says regional towns will benefit from the deal.
"As far as possible, we'll be buying in those regional communities and we'll be employing people from those regional communities," she said.
"There are local contractors all the way along the line that we'll be interviewing and hopefully talking to and as much as possible using."
