Network Rail has announced that it is set to begin work on improving three level crossings in Leicestershire, UK, during April 2020 in order to ensure that the crossings can continue to be used reliably for years to come. By installing the new, modern barriers, Network Rail will create a more resilient railway, helping to reduce delays to services and meaning that the crossings remain fit for purpose.
The improvement works will involve Network Rail engineers replacing the old barrier gates with new, modern ones at the level crossings at Coalville in North West Leicestershire, Bardon Hill in Hugglescote and Desford in the Hinckley and Bosworth District. In order for the work at each crossing to be carried out safely, there will be changes to access for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
Vinny Briggs, Route Level Crossing Manager for Network Rail, said: “This is really important work to modernise these level crossings and make sure they remain fit for purpose. The new barriers will improve the reliability of the level crossings in Leicestershire and, therefore, help to reduce delays on the railway. We are working hard to minimise any disruption whilst this work takes place and would like to thank all those impacted for their patience.”
