Grampians Rail Trail: Shire calls for community to step up and manage facility
The Mayor of the Mount Alexander Shire says the community is devastated by the loss of the historic Maldon Railway Station.
The 120-year-old building was gutted in a fire on Tuesday night which was caused by a faulty fridge.
Mayor Philip Schier says the building is a key tourist attraction bringing thousands of visitors to the region.
He says important artefacts were also lost in the fire but trains are still running.
"It looks likely it won't affect day-to-day operation too much over the next period of time and it also won't affect the grant they recently received to do work on amenities and the goods shed there," he said.
