The Victorian Government has confirmed the owners of several houses at Footscray that will be affected by the regional rail link will be eligible for compensation.
The houses in Buckley and Victoria streets are outside the area of homes to be compulsorily acquired by the government to make way for the project.
The project would see rail lines laid within metres of the homes, rendering them "unsaleable".
The Public Transport Minister Martin Pakula says he visited the area last night and spoke to some of the owners.
"They'll be included in the consultation in fact the team had already organised a meeting with them for Wednesday night," he said.
"I've given them the reassurance that either way they'll have the option to sell their property to the department."
