Work is underway to build the factory at Shatabdi Nagar which will supply ballastless slab track for the Delhi – Ghaziabad – Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System commuter line.
National Capital Region Transport Corp said the RRTS project would include ‘many firsts in terms of technology which wasn’t there earlier in India’.
This includes 1 676 mm gauge ballastless track suitable for 180 km/h running, which has been indigenised as part of the government’s Make in India programme. The slab track is intended to have low maintenance requirements and thus low life-cycle costs.
The track slab factory is expected to be completed in within 180 days, NCRTC reported on January 4.
All system and subsystem contracts for the RRTS project have now been awarded, and a fleet of 40 electric multiple-units for the line has been ordered from Bombardier Transportation. Construction of Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar and Duhai stations on the priority section is now underway, and work on the Duhai depot has also begun. The first substation is being built in Murad Nagar.
The 17 km Sahibabad – Duhai priority section of the RRTS corridor is scheduled to be completed in 2023, and the full 82 km corridor in 2025.
