Greater Toronto area transport authority Metrolinx has awarded Ontario Northland a C$109m contract to refurbish 56 of GO Transit’s BiLevel commuter rail coaches at its Remanufacturing & Repair Centre in North Bay.
The overhaul of the double-deck coaches will include structural work and renewed or upgraded parts including electrical components, HVAC and door systems, as well as new seating and toilet improvements.
The work is scheduled to begin at the end of May for completion by late September 2025.
‘This contract will provide job stability for our employees while contributing to economic growth in Northern Ontario’, said Ontario Northland President & CEO Corina Moore. ’We are proud of the impact of this contract to the region as it will create long-term jobs as well as drive business to over 30 local suppliers.’
