The original “Puffing Billy” steam locomotive was built, and is on display, in England. But it’s Australia that’s keeping the name “in active service”. The Puffing Billy Railway is a heritage railway, but more than that. Much like a lot of steam activity in Australia. We can a lead from the Puffing Billy Railway which does its own extensive steam work in its Belgrave shops.
Steam powered. Small, but mighty. With enough steam pressure…potentially lethal? We have to be careful.
Steam power is both fun and possibly dangerous. As we build out little (and big) machines, we must realize the “barrel” points both ways. Of course it’s the boiler or boiler tubes, or really the pressure tubes that are dangerous. But that’s also where the steam builds up and so where the power we need builds up.
