The North Yorkshire Moors Railway has announced that it will resume steam train services on Saturday 15th May 2021, operating two trains to Whitby every day as well as an intermediate service from Pickering to Grosmont.
The railway will run with COVID precautions in place until the summer holidays, with pre-booked services and a set departure and return time.
The intermediate service will allow passengers to hop on and hop off to explore Levisham, Goathland and Grosmont.
Tickets will go on sale on the 26th April, with anyone having tickets from 2020 able to book from the 19th of Aprl 2021.
All passengers aged 16 years old or over will need to Track and Trace, follow social distancing and wear a face covering (unless exempt).
The first batch of tickets will be available up to June 20th in line with the government’s stage four exit plan.
Chris Price, General Manager, said: “It was a huge relief when the government announced its roadmap, which now enables the railway to plan and prepare for when it can reopen. It will be great to see the staff and volunteers preparing the engines, stations, shops and tea rooms, ready to welcome passengers once more”.

A number of events have been cancelled by the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, but the good news is that the 22nd to 26th September should see the railway hold their Annual Steam Gala. December should see Christmas Santa Specials operate.
Due to a project agreed before the lockdown lifting plan, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway will be closed between the 4th and 8th June 2021.
