Rolling stock manufacturer Škoda Transportation has announced record earnings of KC1∙6bn on a turnover of KC15∙7bn in 2016. Sales were down by KC2∙5bn, but net profit rose almost threefold from 2015.

A joint venture of Millet SA and RegioRail has been selected by the port authorities of La Rochelle and Nantes Saint-Nazaire to become the new traction partner in their rail operating company OFP Atlantique. Millet and RegioRail are to form OuestRail which will take a 24∙9% stake in OFP Atlantique, La Rochelle holding 50∙2% and the port of Nantes Saint-Nazaire 24∙9%.

On May 4 the board of national operator ČD approved the signing of a 10-year agreement to lease 10 Siemens Vectron 200 km/h multi-system electric locomotives from European Locomotive Leasing of Austria. The €48m deal will include maintenance.

BLS has selected Stadler for the largest rolling stock order it has placed, a SFr650m contract covering the supply of 58 single-deck electric multiple-units in 2021-26. The order includes 30 EMUs for RegioExpress services and 28 for S-Bahn Bern routes.

Siemens announced an agreement to acquire Hannover-based planning, scheduling and information systems software provider HaCon on April 28. The parties have agreed not to disclose financial details of the deal, which subject to regulatory approval is expected to be completed in the first half of 2017.

Czech open access operator RegioJet is to enter the Austrian passenger market with the launch of four daily Wien – Břeclav – Brno – Praha return services from the December 2017 timetable change. The inter-city services would have ‘the best prices on the market’, RegioJet said, with its onboard offering including hot drinks, internet access, newspapers and magazines.

A SFr232m contract for Stadler to supply Stockholm transport authority SL with 22 custom-designed three-car electric multiple-units for the 891 mm gauge Roslagbanan suburban line has been signed. Deliveries are scheduled for 2020, with entry into service in 2022. There is an option for a further 45 units.
