This is the last northbound Sunlander about to pass Virginia station in Brisbane. Notice it is a triple header (instead of the usual 2470/1720 combo) with locos 2471, 2410 and 2152. There is an inscription on the front loco that says "The Sunlander 1953-2014" - not on a headboard! 61 Years, pretty good for a named train (check out the history of many named trains) and also still with many of the original cars. The things that happened while waiting for the train! It was pouring rain and a bit late. It was announced passing on the middle road, platform 2 because there was a Caboolture train in front. So we moved right over to the outside of platform 3 to get a wide shot (we had hoped it would pass on Plat 3 to the right of the photo for a wider shot as it entered the station). Next thing, we saw it was on Platform 3 and turned around to run back along Platform 2 to get a wider shot but found platform 2 occupied by an empty southbound e.m.u. that had snuck in behind us! What was going on here? Race back to original spot which crammed the train between signal and overhead mast. Luckily, the empty electric set was held at the red signal so we got our shot. Another guy was at the northern end of platform 2, goodness knows what kind of photo he got as he would have been totally blocked by the electric. Talk about bad luck. The train announcements were all over the shop with trains on wrong roads and too far ahead of arrivals, must have been the weather.
