Puffing Billy Railway launched their Climax geared locomotive 1694 back into service on Sunday the 8th of September, 2013. 1694 is one of only four operational Climax locomotives in the world (the other three are in North America), and one of only nineteen intact survivors overall. With a maximum speed of 13km/h, this locomotive can negotiate very sharp corners and haul very heavy loads up steep grades. The relaunch of this locomotive is the culmination of a ten year restoration effort by Puffing Billy.
1694 is seen here crossing the famous Monbulk Trestle Bridge on the official relaunch train to Emerald.
