50 Electric 86 class locomotives were built between 1983 and 1985 by Comeng at Granville.
By 1997 a total of 18 had been withdrawn with cracked frames and then followed a downturn in traffic and by 2002 most had been sold to Silverton Rail and transported to Broken Hill.
in 2006 they were on sold to Allco Finance group who sold some but scrapped most.
8606 was not one of these locomotives,
Working with Pacific National until Withdrawn on 21-2-2003 and sold to Sydney Electric Train Society
