THE State Government has called for tenders to provide the concept design of a railway line between Beerwah and Caloundra South it says it has no plans to build.
Sunshine Coast rail commuter Jeff Addison stumbled across the call-for-tender documents this week to design a heavy railway line no one knew was on the cards.
It was on the Queensland Public Works website and called for the "Concept design and analysis for the Beerwah to Caloundra South investigation".

The NSW government has delayed the procurement process for its proposed $2.8 billion order of 65 new intercity trains to run between central Sydney, the Central Coast and Hunter, and the south coast and Blue Mountains.
The delay comes amid industry speculation Transport for NSW might find it difficult to achieve its stated goal of buying the new trains "off the shelf".
Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian had said the government would shortlist potential train manufacturers by the end of the year and issue more detailed tender specifications.

The creation of a highly detailed digital model of the UK’s rail network is expected to dramatically lift the efficiency of maintenance and repair works.
Network Rail’s 330 million pound ORBIS project is a mammoth six-year undertaking that involves the creation of a comprehensive and highly detailed 3D digital model of the UK’s entire railway network.
Currently in its second year, the project first entails the combination of existing data with new data on key assets collated by means of Lidar technology deployed via helicopter.
